Tyler, the Creator, born Tyler Gregory Okonma in California, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director, fashion and graphic designer. Off of his fifth studio album titled Igor, A Boy Is A Gun is the seventh song on the album. The song is the second of three music videos released for the album.
The song tells the story of a relationship in which it has become toxic and almost dangerous at a point. The opening scene starts with the lyrics saying “don’t shoot me down” as “Igor” points the gun up and shoots a disc out of the air. The videos play’s with its angles and actively zooms in and out as a stylistic choice.
One big meaning in the video is how Tyler sees his significant other like a gun which is also how he likes the person close yet because of this the person is also dangerous to Tyler’s well being. Through the video, you can tell there is a lot of fluctuation in his feelings towards this boy there are moments where he is seen visible angry at his partner but others where they seem to be better.
As you get to the dining room scene you see Tyler off to the edge of the shot while everyone else is in the same area of the table. Tyler then states a line where he thought he invited him to breakfast but he doesn’t understand why the boy he is with invited his ex-girlfriend. The album itself takes a look at this relationship “Igor” is having with a man who is caught up with a girl and how the boy is not willing to just be honest with himself and towards the end once “Igor” has excepted the glim fate after so much back in fourth of this toxic relationship he moves on.
